Teacher Tiktok & “Quittok” + 20 Fav Teachers on Social Media [S4 E99]

Listen to the full episode below:

It’s episode 99, which means we’re only one episode away from our 100th episode! We literally can’t even handle the excitement. If you didn’t catch episode 98, we shared our stories of beginning our teacher business, and 20 teacherpreneurs that we admire.

In this episode, we’re celebrating by taking a look at the thing that initially brought the two of us together - social media.

While some people have negative opinions about social media, there’s an absolutely amazing side to it as well. Things like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and podcasting (we know, that might not technically count as social media) have expanded the teacher universe in a way that was never possible before.

The technology has allowed the teaching community to explode their reach and make their voices heard. We both feel like we are better teachers because we found community in social media.

Teaching can be so isolating. You see what your coworkers are doing, and maybe a few schools in your district. But other than that, you don’t always get the chance to experience how other teachers are doing what they do around the world.

Platforms like Instagram have the ability to literally bring you into someone else’s classroom. You get to see their routines, their teaching style, and ultimately learn from them. It’s pretty incredible when you think about it.

Can you imagine surviving pandemic teaching or, post pandemic teaching, without being able to turn to these people who are experiencing the same feelings as you in other places in the world? It’s really just so comforting.

Today we’re honing in on the one social media platform that we know very well, which is Instagram. We’re also going to look at another platform that we’ve been reluctantly dipping our toes into. To be honest, it’s something that’s making us feel pretty old for so many reasons…and that is TikTok!
