Celebrating 100 Episodes! [S4 E100]

Listen to the full episode below:

The day has come, friends. We’ve made it to our 100th episode! Whether you’ve been listening since episode one, or if this is your first episode…thank you for being here.

We are celebrating this huge milestone by reminiscing on some of our very favorite moments of Brave New Teaching - and believe us when we say, there are lots to choose from!

Perhaps the most exciting part of this episode is that we get to share real audio clips that listeners like you have sent in! You’ll hear listeners share why they love the show, favorite episodes, how our resources have helped them in the classroom, and more!

I don’t think that we can even begin to explain how overwhelmingly amazing it is to hear from fellow educators. We have worked so hard to build this community, and appreciate each of you more than we can put into words.

It’s been a really difficult couple of years. We’ve all seen some ugly sides of what is going on in the world and in education. We know that it can get better by working together and continuing to do great things. We love you all! As always, thank you for listening and supporting this podcast!

Our 20 Favorite Moments of Brave New Teaching:

  1. The back and forth between podcast names

  2. Shakespeare on a Shelf

  3. Our first recordings

  4. BINGO

  5. That time we were going to have a live show, then COVID happened

  6. When we realized what Curriculum Rehab was going to be

  7. Connecting across the distance

  8. Flat Shakespeare

  9. Down With the Reading Quiz while Amanda had COVID

  10. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs

  11. Curriculum Bloopers (you can check those out in your user dashboard!)

  12. Sinners episode…

    1. We sat down, determined to make “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” a relevant, worthwhile piece of rhetoric to study -- and then Obama gave his eulogy for John Lewis.  We both saw the connection and BAM -- an episode was born!

  13. Vision boarding Round 1 and Round 2

    1. It was a hit when Amanda talked about it in an early episode, and then it became the topic for our star-studded interview with Jenn Gonzalez!

  14. Recording during quarantine

    1. We must have been on the phone or recording at least three hours a day.  Our quarantine lives were so intertwined and kept each other alive during the darkest days of being stuck inside.

  15. The Soul-Searching of Summer 2020 & BLM

    1. Of all the things people were reading and sharing, we both decided to start with a PD book that would help us address systemic racism in our curriculum design.  We read Letting Go of Literary Whiteness and still recommend it as one of the best PD books we’ve read in our careers.

  16. Collabisodes

    1. For several holidays, including Teacher Appreciation, we had listeners call in and share their best lesson ideas -- these have been some of the most fun and brilliant episodes on the lineup!

      1. Teacher Appreciation

      2. Halloween Collabisode

      3. Valentine’s Day Collabisode

  17. Interviewing Jeff Wilhelm

    1. Back in my earlier years of teaching, my department chair used to make us read Wilhelm’s blog posts and articles -- she was a huge geek which, in turn, made Amanda a huge geek. Getting an email from Chris and Jeff REQUESTING to be on the podcast was a dream come true.

  18. Interviewing my work husband Kyle

  19. First time I saw our podcast recommended in a Facebook group

  20. Meeting “fans” IRL

    1. When I went to visit a school to do some coaching observations, it was WILD to meet a teacher and a librarian who had listened to the podcast and knew who I (Amanda) was!  I was humbled and inspired to keep going to help as many more teachers as we possibly can.
