The Birth of a Podcast

When two like minded people meet at a workshop for English teacher nerds, you shouldn’t be surprised that they became fast friends ready to talk teaching on the airwaves.

It was a warm, rainy, ruin-your-hair kind of day, but that didn’t stop Amanda or Marie from making their way to Shakespeare and Co restaurant in Lexington, KY. It was finally time for the Keeping the Wonder Workshop to begin, and the girls were pumped to be presenting their teaching ideas for a workshop full of excited teachers from across the country.

Amanda brought a lesson to share on the magic of setting and Marie demonstrated new theatrical strategies to bring to the English classroom. After a full day of completely recharging their creativity, Amanda and Marie were instant friends!

Our beginning

Okay, guys, I can’t handle this any more. Third person is rough, so I’m gonna let you know that it’s me, Amanda! I’m taking the keyboard for this introductory blog post and I’m so thrilled to welcome you to Brave New Teaching! I honestly can tell you the minute I met Marie I knew we needed to not only be friends, but to be partners in some kind of dorky crime, like this podcast! So here we are, about one year after meeting, sitting down in our respective time zones to talk on our microphones to each other and with you all about BRAVE. NEW. TEACHING. The first three introductory episodes are all dedicated to defining this podcast for you: we are here to help other teachers find the courage to challenge the status quo.

And here’s my buddy Marie. Her hair looks so much better than mine! This was Marie’s presentation where she gave teachers inventive and exciting ideas to add drama into their classrooms.
