Shakespeare and Rhetoric: Arguments and the Bard [S4 E87]
Listen to the full episode below:
Are you ready to nerd out with us? Today’s episode will be focused on one of our favorite topics, Shakespeare. No really, we’ve done multiple episodes on this topic! We’re kind of obsessed.
This episode will be different though, because it will give space for Shakespeare to be in conversation in any literature class. We don’t want to beg you to incorporate Shakespeare into your general education or AP class, but we also think that there is typically flexibility in curriculum maps that would be a perfect fit.
We’ve found that there is a lack of resources related to Shakespeare, so we want to help you if it’s something you’ve struggled with. How are we going to do that? Through rhetorical analysis.
Your mindset is probably similar to how ours used to be, which is automatically jumping to ethos, pathos and logos because that’s what you’ve been taught. We strongly believe that there are more practical approaches that will translate into other areas and aren’t so isolated. It’s our mission to give our students valuable skills, and by using Shakespeare and these strategies you will be doing just that!
Topics Covered:
How Shakespeare can help in teaching a vital life skill
What we mean when we say “rhetorical analysis”
Why the rhetorical triangle is so effective when accompanied with Shakespeare
